The Sam Bell Maxey House always welcomes volunteers. Volunteers are encouraged to share their skills and interests by filling out the volunteer form below so site staff can develop each volunteer’s individual profile. Volunteers are also encouraged, but not required, to join the Friends of the Maxey House nonprofit organization.
Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:
- Docent — provides tours for large groups or special events; must attend 3–6 hours of free training at the site to become proficient with the site’s history
- Gardens/Grounds — assists with planting, pruning and removing plant materials
- Exhibits/Artifacts — assists with displaying and taking down of temporary exhibits
- Special Events — assists with planning, promoting and attending to required duties
- Educational Programming — assists with planning and implementing history-related programs for youth and adults
- Research Opportunities — assists with research process by substantiation of evidence via courthouse record and other documents, transcribing letters, finding and securing resources, recording digital imagery
- Housekeeping/Building Maintenance/Administration — assists staff with daily operations of cleaning, repairing and/or filing
